Although Ron was born in Washington State, he grew up in northern Ohio and later in Phoenix, Arizona. After high school, he returned to Salem, Ohio in the fall of 1968 to attend a wedding of his cousin, a student who was planning to return for a second year at Dayton Bible College. After prayer, Ron responded to the new couple’s request to attend the school with them. It was there that he met Sherry, whom he later married in December of 1969. It was at the school that he also met Rev. David Michael Pointer (Pasor Jonathan's father), as an instructor.
